For example, it makes sense to rather Buy larger tranches to save percentage fees to be able to. You can also use our Swissquote promotion code * MKT_Swiizerfranke Save CHF 200 in trading fees. To do this, you must open a Swissquote custody account, enter the code MKT_Schwiizerfranke and live in Switzerland. As soon as you have deposited more than CHF 1,000, you will receive the voucher code for the trading fees.
Deposit value | Custody fees per quarter |
---|---|
0 - CHF 50'000 | CHF 20 |
CHF 50'001 - CHF 100'000 | CHF 25 |
CHF 100'001 - CHF 150'000 | CHF 37.50 |
Over CHF 150,000 | CHF 50 |
Assets over CHF 1 million | Additional 0.0075% |
Ongoing costs or Swissquote custody account fees are charged per quarter. The custody account management fee is a minimum of CHF 20 and a maximum of CHF 50 per quarter. If the value of the custody account exceeds CHF 1 million, an additional 0.0075% will be charged per quarter.
Custody fees examples:
For a share deposit worth CHF 5,000, deposit fees (in this case the minimum fees) result in annual costs of CHF 80 or CHF 20 per quarter.
For a share deposit worth CHF 250,000, the deposit fees exceed the cost ceiling and are therefore charged at CHF 50 per quarter or CHF 200 per year.
A growing custody account therefore becomes increasingly cheaper and the running costs negligible as a result. Only above 1 million will an additional 0.0075% be added.
With Swissquote you have Different currency accounts available. You get a sum of Euro or USD from somewhere? Then deposit it directly on Swissquote to the Euro or USD account. Why?
Many securities are traded in currencies other than CHF. For example, if you want to buy Apple shares, you need USD on the New York Stock Exchange.
Currency exchange will cost you 0.95% on the main currencies (EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, JPY, AUD, CAD, NZD). Other currencies are slightly more expensive, the details can be found directly in the Swissquote fee overview.
In addition, there may be third-party fees and stamp duties.
Above, you read that there are over 3 million products available to you. This incredible choice is partly due to the ever-growing number of blockchain assets.
If you with Swissquote cryptocurrencies trading you have the opportunity to invest directly in "real" cryptocurrencies. You do not trade with derivatives, but with cryptos. These are purchased via Bitstamp and Coinbase and then stored in cold wallets (offline storage).
Crypto trading fees and costs are:
Currently there are two available Swissquote Wallets: A Wallet for Bitcoin and for Ethereum. These are available free of charge if you deposit more than USD 500. Each withdrawal costs USD 10.
More Wallets are supposed to come, but are not yet available. Now you may ask yourself whether a Swissquote crypto transfer to your own wallet is possible.
Unfortunately, a transfer from Swissquote to your private hardware wallet is not yet possible. What is possible, however, is a Crypto Transfer to Swissquote. Crypto exchanges like Coinbase, Kraken or Bitstamp are supported. Inform yourself best herewhether your exchange is available.
Because often after the Multi Crypto Mini Index was asked, a few words about it. The security can serve to diversify a portfolio. It the "Index" with the ISIN CH0596608015 or the ticker MOONTQ contains a basket of cryptocurrencies. The "crypto ETF" is well advertised, but you should take a close look at the fees and question them.
At Supplement you see that a Holding period of 5 years is recommended. In the best scenario, a return of 5,91% per year (less than an MSCI World ETF) is forecast. In the Stress scenario a loss of 100% is reported.
Should a real "stress scenario" occur, you will be better off with the "real" cryptocurrencies, as you will not incur a total loss. In a positive scenario, you will be more successful because the fees for individually purchased cryptocurrencies are lower.
It's simply part of investing - the annoying part with taxes. When the old year is over, there are two options for the Swissquote tax return.
From 1 January, you can order a detailed Swissquote tax statement for the previous year in your account under " "Documents > Order statement". The Swissquote tax statement costs CHF 100 plus tax and any postage costs abroad.
Is this Tax statement really necessary? If you want to save on fees at Swissquote, you can safely do without it.
All movements of your purchases and sales can also be viewed in the account free of charge. You then transfer them manually to your tax return and you're done. With the CHF 100 you can either go out for a nice dinner or pay a tax consultant for a double check.
Unfortunately, a Swissquote eTax statement (eTax) is not yet available.
We invest for the future and at some point the time will come: You would like to have a Swissquote Payout make.
Since Swissquote incurs costs here, a withdrawal costs a small fee. The withdrawal fee is a flat rate of CHF 2.
It therefore makes no sense to transfer a dividend of CHF 3 directly to a private account as a payout. For larger sums, the payout fees are negligible.
By the way, you can withdraw in multiple currencies and easily in your dashboard. You simply enter the appropriate account and the amount in the desired currency for your payout, and the payment will be transferred to your account. The money should arrive within 1-2 banking days.
Swissquote savings plans are available since the end of 2022! You can start your Swissquote savings plan either in the "Account" or in the "Workspace". To do so, select "Recurring" under "Purchase" and then enter the frequency for your Swissquote savings plan: Weekly, every 2 weeks or approximately monthly.
Note: If Swissquote savings plans are not displayed in the workspace, you must first change your trade mask from Advanced to Standard under "Settings".
If you own registered shares, there are several reasons for registering them in the share register with your Swiss broker. To register shares with Swissquote, you can simply click on the small plus symbol (+) to the right of the respective value after the purchase.
Since you are now registered in the share register for this security, you will be invited to general meetings in the future. If you want to receive a dividend in kind (e.g. Calida pajamas), this is possible through the share entry.
The Trading App Yuh (not a desktop solution) was created as a cooperation between Swissquote and Postfinance. It complements the offer with payments and banking. In this article you can more about Yuh experienced
In August 2023, the Swissquote securities lending as an optional function introduced for clients. Titled in the letter as a simple way to receive additional income and generate passive income. Of course, this is only one side of the coin.
However, the disadvantages of Swissquote securities lending are obvious and can also be found in the general terms and conditions:
The Swissquote securities lending is advertised quite lightly and positively. However, the risks involved should not be underestimated!
As is well known, there is no return without risk.
Securities such as shares and ETFs generally have the advantage, in the event of a Insolvency of the broker not to slip into the loss mass. In the case of securities lending, the Property rights but temporarily ceded and lent to a participant unknown to you.
Tip: In our opinion, the risk is not worth the associated return. Therefore, do not use securities lending if you want to build up assets that are safe and relevant in the long term.
Our Swissquote experience has been positive for years. The broad and constantly growing range of products is virtually unique in Switzerland. Developments on the platform take place constantly, so that you as a user can always benefit from Optimisations can profit.
The Swissquote fees are inexpensive and the trading interface has useful functions. At first, all the functions can be a bit confusing, but you will soon get used to them.
If you are looking for a technically simpler solution, Yuh (a joint trading and banking app from Swissquote and Postfinance) might be exciting for you.
Since Swissquote ETF savings plans there is a really good solution for ETF investors from Switzerland.
With the Cryptocurrencies we would still more Wallets but this is already criticism at a very high level.

The biggest disadvantage in Swissquote vs Degiro comparison is to compensate for the lack of Swiss Deposit protection.
In return, Degiro comes up trumps with Savings plans (!) and for example with free ETFs. So you can choose from a selection of several hundred ETFs without purchase fees and make individual purchases or open an ETF savings plan.
Swissquote's advantages lie in a broader product side (cryptocurrencies, etc.) and Swiss deposit insurance. A clear answer in the duel with Degiro therefore does not exist.
In the Swissquote vs. Interactive Brokers comparison, IB clearly wins the fee duel. SQ, on the other hand, offers Swiss deposit insurance and. For example, easily accessible, German-speaking support. If you invest mainly in CHF and you simply want to register in the share register, SQ may be the better choice for you despite higher fees.l be.
For beginners, the Swissquote platform is a bit confusing at first. The user interface offers professional trading tools and can therefore be a bit difficult to understand. However, experience shows that you will quickly get used to it.
The fees could be cheaper, as always, but these are very fair. A savings plan on ETFs would be desirable, but this is criticism on a high level.

I am not very familiar with compi handling and do not want to trade via compi. Is there a way to trade like a bank, with an account and tel. buy orders? If so, under what conditions?
I have another question about the fees:
ETFs cost CHF 9 (plus stock exchange fees etc.).
Can these CHF 9 be deducted in the tax return?
Many thanks for the answer

In fact, the only point worth mentioning is the tradability of Swiss shares.
Deposit protection is CHF 100,000, which is the law. In Germany it is EUR 100,000.
To emphasise this as a special advantage is quite audacious; no car manufacturer advertises: "Look! Our cars even have brakes!"
Nothing remains from your list except the underground support.
And you can get it cheaper in other countries.
Hello Jorge,
Believe me, I receive numerous messages from readers for whom the CH deposit guarantee is important. I can see from your e-mail that you come from DE - so I understand your perspective on this...
Anyway, there are more differences, as you can see here in the Broker comparisons you can see.
Hello, Eric,
I now have to renew my W8 form with SQ, again there is no help at all, only prefabricated answers and I should please consult the instructions, regardless of whether they are in German or English, I cannot find an answer to my question, e.g. which TaxIdentifying Number I should write there, nor can I get any information over the phone,
well, what can i say? very helpful!
TIN is simply your AHV number. i know this from another time, but i think this info can now be found quite well with a quick google search.
I find Swissquote's fees outrageously high. Example purchase of US shares at Degiro all in all between Fr. 2.50 and 4.00, at Swissquote Fr. 28.
Or Swiss shares: Ex. Straumann purchase at Swissquote Fr. 26 and sale over Fr. 34 !!!! At Degiro I paid Fr. 5.50 for buying and selling. In addition, no custody fees at Degiro. Advantage of Swissquote: they carry practically everything, Degiro does not.
I would always consider the fees relative to the size of the order and deposit.
Swissquote is favourable for large orders, which is why I recommend, if possible, saving up to at least CHF 1,000 and only then placing an order.
Furthermore, Degiro does not allow you to register in share registers and they are not from Switzerland. There are different criteria for each investor when choosing a broker 🙂
Thank you for your feedback
There are already things that don't go so well, maybe you should mention that too:
Straumann share split, share blocked for days, after which it could no longer be entered in the share register, which was previously possible without any problems.
Customer service, you write there and get response days later, again simply a template, I can do without that.
Fees for the purchase of Swiss shares are also not soooo favourable, for a Lindt&Sprüngli that costs over CHF 10,000 I pay over CHF 60 in fees,
Custody fees may be cheap, but I pay extra for the tax statement again.
What annoys me the most is the bad service, sometimes they are also very unfriendly.
Kind regards
Thanks for sharing Annabella.
Fortunately, I have never had such experiences in the last 5 years or so. Of course, a stock split is always a special situation. Was the entry in the register so critical for you in terms of time?
Unfortunately, the Lindt&Sprüngli share has not been available for 10k for a long time, but is at +100k francs. If you invest with such sums, you can of course continue to be sensitive to fees. However, please always bear in mind that some (sometimes cheaper) foreign brokers do not have high deposit protection.
In the end, there is no one perfect broker for everyone. Every investor is allowed to find the ideal provider for him or herself 🙂
Fees, Swiss deposit insurance, ease of use and many other factors play a role in the selection.
Love and thanks for sharing here!
Eric
hello Eric,
What's so special about a 1:10 stock split? Georg Fischer also carried out a stock split, it went smoothly at my house bank, somehow SQ doesn't seem to be able to do this here, especially cheeky then the hint (the share was blocked for at least 5 days with falling prices...no, I didn't want to sell) I should have made myself smart in the run-up to the stock split, that's ridiculous.
Lindt&Sprüngli (the participation certificate) costs a little over 10300 CHF at the moment, the share is of course over 100k, I am well aware of that, I think it is cheeky to charge more than 60 CHF for such an order.
But you are right, in CH you pay fantasy prices for a simple stock order, if you want CH deposit protection you are out of luck. but what is the CH deposit protection good for? I would not bet my head that this is so much better.
Kind regards
"5,000 results in custody fees of 0.025% annual costs of CHF 125 or CHF 31.25 per quarter."
I arrive at 50.- pa or the minimum amount of 15.- pq = 60.- pa
I find SQ's custody account fees relatively steep for a pure online broker. Even the cap of 200 doesn't really help. For a pure buy-and-hold shareholder, Postfinance is already cheaper from a custody account value of 9000. And the flat-rate fee of 90 pa is credited as a trading credit.
"The biggest disadvantage in the Swissquote vs Degiro comparison is the lack of Swiss deposit protection at Degiro."
In return, it is subject to German deposit protection up to EUR 100,000 and offers extremely low trading fees with homeopathic custody account fees (2.50 per stock exchange on which you are active). Disadvantage: Negative interest from the 1st and the inability to register Swiss registered shares.
But you don't have to choose, you can have several broker accounts.
Just my two fee tables...
Thanks for your input Alain 🙂
I think you've got one place wrong with the fees. You only reach the maximum of CHF 50 per quarter from 250,000.
Do you know how to get the free magazine? I've heard about it but I can't find anything on the site...
Thanks for the tip 🙂
You will receive the Swissquote magazine free of charge once your custody account has exceeded CHF 10,000.
Love!
Hello Eric
My custody account has over CHF 10,000, so I asked Swissquote about this. I received the following answer: "The Swissquote magazine is only sent free of charge to customers who fulfil certain conditions. These conditions are adjusted annually and are not communicated publicly."
I therefore assume that the 10,000 will no longer be enough.
Google is your friend:
Here you can subscribe to the magazine electronically or on Totbaum
https://de.swissquote.com/newsroom/magazine
That's right, only the print version usually costs money. You can buy it at the kiosk or for 10k at the depot.
and where can I find the information or subscription option "from 10k in the depot". I only see that I can subscribe for CHF 40 per year.
I received this information from SQ. If your depot is larger and it is not automatically sent to you, it is best to ask the support. Maybe this has also changed.
Hey Schwizerfrank
You have to adjust the Swissquote custody fees again in your article 😉
With a share deposit of CHF 200,000, you pay the maximum of CHF 200 or CHF 50 per quarter at Swissquote.
If you have a share deposit of CHF 60,000 or less, you pay the minimum of CHF 60 or CHF 15 per quarter.
I use Swissquote and IB and am satisfied with both brokers. Swissquote for Swiss stocks and ETFs and exotic with IB.
Kind regards
Swiss minimalist
Thanks for the tip 🙂
