PostFinance E-Trading: Overview of fees

Now you know that PostFinance offers the most important functions for private investors. Next, let's take a look at the Fees because if you can keep your fees low in the long term, your returns will benefit.

Description of theAmount of the fee
Deposit feeCHF 18 per quarter = CHF 72 per year
Trading fees / brokerage feesCHF 18 trading credit per quarter (expires at the end of the quarter, cannot be accumulated)
Exact trading fees vary depending on the amount and exchange centre (see next table)
Tax statementCHF 97.30
Savings plan execution1% (min. CHF 1.-)
Inactivity feeNone
Currency conversion fee1.15% (Not shown transparently. Fee according to our test for a change from CHF 1,000 to Euro)

Almost every one of these fees is more expensive than the leading online brokers. This is not surprising, as PoFi uses the services of Swissquote.

Deposit fee:
Unfortunately, the PostFinance custody account fees are CHF 72 per year not ideal and compared to other online brokers such as SAXO (no custody fees) is quite high. The custody account fees are charged per quarter (January, April, July, October). If you cancel your custody account during a current quarter, you will not receive a refund of the custody account fees.

Trading fees:
You will receive per quarter CHF 18.- Postfinance brokerage credit balance (CHF 72 per year) as a gift. This allows you, for example, to execute 3 trades of max. CHF 500 each free of charge (otherwise costs CHF 6 in brokerage fees on the SIX stock exchange).

So if you smaller amounts monthly, the offer is attractive because you then only pay the custody account fee and not for individual trades, as these are covered by your credit balance.

From larger amounts (e.g. CHF 1,500 per month), each trade would cost you CHF 20 (CHF 60 in total). Your brokerage credit will be deducted from this CHF 60, so that you only pay CHF 42. With a total amount of CHF 4,500, this is still a percentage cost of 0.93%.

Attention: Any brokerage credit that has not been utilised by the end of the quarter expires.
